Green Park Underground Station

As part of Westminster City Council’s £12.7 million programme to upgrade eight public conveniences across the borough, Green Park Underground Station has undergone a complete transformation. Designed by Hugh Broughton Architects and delivered by FM Conway, the refurbishment reimagines one of London’s busiest public toilets with a focus on accessibility, durability and user experience.

At the heart of the new facility, KEMMLIT UK supplied its Classic Cell cubicle system, chosen for its exceptional resilience and clean architectural aesthetic, perfectly suited to a high‑footfall transport environment.

KEMMLIT UK’s Role: Classic Cell Cubicles Built for Longevity

The Classic Cell system was selected for Green Park due to its proven performance in demanding public environments. Key benefits include:

  • Robust aluminium frame construction engineered for long‑term stability

  • High‑pressure laminate surfaces that withstand constant use and are easy to maintain

  • Flexible configurations supporting enlarged and ambulant cubicles

  • A refined, contemporary appearance that complements the architect’s material palette

  • Compliance with updated accessibility standards, including larger cubicle footprints

The system delivers a clean, modern look while meeting the operational demands of a 21st‑century public convenience.

Design Priorities

1. Improving Accessibility

Green Park’s refurbishment addresses long‑standing issues around gender balance and inclusive access. The redesign introduces:

  • A wheelchair‑accessible toilet

  • Enlarged cubicles

  • Improved circulation space

KEMMLIT’s Classic Cell system supports these enhancements through its adaptable modular design and robust construction.

2. Creating a Safe, Open Layout

The new layout prioritises visibility and user safety. Clear sightlines reduce concealed areas, and the cubicle system integrates seamlessly into this open, intuitive plan.

Classic Cell’s slimline aluminium framing contributes to a light, uncluttered environment that feels safer and more welcoming.

3. Enhancing the User Experience

The refurbishment introduces:

  • Dropped‑level sinks for younger users

  • A cohesive material palette

  • Integrated artwork by James Lambert, inspired by Green Park’s heritage and local culture

KEMMLIT’s cubicles complement this design language, providing a neutral yet premium backdrop that elevates the overall experience.

A Future‑Proofed Public Facility

The Green Park upgrade sets a new benchmark for public washrooms in London. With its combination of architectural quality, accessibility improvements and durable materials, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform essential public infrastructure.

KEMMLIT UK is proud to have contributed to this flagship scheme, supplying a washroom system engineered to perform reliably for years to come.
